Other learning opportunities

There are many other opportunities to build on your skills during your time at Manchester.

Lectures and seminar series

You are welcome to attend open lecture and seminar series held within Schools and Divisions. See a full list of Faculty events.

These give you a chance to network with researchers outside your direct field of study and you may make some useful contacts that can help you with an aspect of your project.

In certain Schools and Divisions, you may have the opportunity to attend certain lectures being held for master’s students. You should speak to your PGR Trainer to see if this is available in your area.

Career Seminar Series for Researchers

The Research Development Team felt as postdocs of many years themselves and in their capacities as research staff representatives that fellow researchers had a desire to know more about careers beyond academia.

To address this, they conceived the idea of having a regular careers seminar series that they would record in order to make it available to researchers as and when they need it.

Biotechnology YES Competition

Developed to raise awareness of the commercialisation within the biosciences, the Biotechnology Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (Biotechnology YES) is especially for early career researchers. It is organised by the Haydn Green Institution for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at The University of Nottingham, the BBSRC, and the MRC.

Participants are asked to develop a business plan for a hypothetical bioscience start-up company and prepare an oral presentation.
