PGR Experience

We send regular updates to our PGRs by email throughout each academic year.

The Doctoral Academy has a monthly PGR Bulletin that is sent to all PGR students and academic staff. You will recieve this via your divisional listserv. However, if you have not received it, please email us at FBMH.doctoralacademy@manchester.ac.uk so that you are included in this circulation.

If you have content that you wish to be included in the PGR Doctoral Academy Bulletin, then please email this to FBMH.doctoralacademy@manchester.ac.uk by the last Monday of every month.

Content can include PGR events, activities, opportunities and news relevant to all our PGRs. We also welcome good news stories, so if you have something you would like to see included, then please get in touch.

What's 'normal' in a PhD?: a podcast series

Our podcast series discusses various topics relating to postgraduate research at The University of Manchester.

Dr Debbie Smith (Academic Lead for Student Experience in FBMH Doctoral Academy) and Julie Fiwka (PGR Coordinator - Experience in FBMH Doctoral Academy) will host this podcast series throughout the 2023/24 academic year.

We hope to cover an array of different topics relevant to being a postgraduate researcher, including:

  • Making time for self: getting the most from academic life
  • Living in a world of imperfection
  • Preparing for your viva
  • Life after the PhD
  • PhD mythbusting
  • Maintaining a healhy work-life balance

If you would like to join an episode to lend your experience and knowledge to help other PGRs on their journey, then please get in touch by emailing Julie Fiwka at julie.fiwka@manchester.ac.uk.
